FACTS KNOW ABOUT UNO-
UNO officially came into existence on 24 October, 1945. UNO Headquarters are located at NewYork.UN Charter was signed on June 26, 1945 by 50 countries at San Franscisco.
The main objectives of the UN :-
(A)Security
(B)Welfare
(C)Protection of Human Rights
UN Flag is Light blue in color and emblazoned in white in its centre is the UN symbol- a polar map of the world embraced by twin olive branches open at the top.
UN membership is open all peace-loving countries.New members are admitted by the general assembly on the recommendation of the Security Council.UN is financed by the contribution from member countries.
The six major organs of UNO are-
(i)General Assembly- The general assembly meets once a year and The general assembly elects its President for a year.The general assembly passes the the budget of the UN.
(ii)ICJ(International Court of Justice)- ICJ has 15 judges elect by the General assembly and the Security Council sitting Independently.The term of offfice of the Judges of the ICJ is 9Years.
(iii)Security Council-The permanent members of the security council are-USA, UK, RUSSIA, FRANCE, CHINA.The non permanent members of the security council are eelected by the general assembly for a term of 2 years.THE RIGHT OF VETO IS AVAILABLE TO ONLY 5 PERMANENT MEMBERS OF THE SECURITY COUNCIL.
(iv)Economic and Social Council (v)Trusteeship Council
The United Nations Educational,Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO) with its headquarters at Paris(Capital of France) to promote peace through international collaboration in education for all.
*At present 193 countries are members of the UNO.
